It’s not the weekend, but this is still required viewing.
SOPA is on my mind and this quick video wraps it in some compelling context.
Now, make your voice heard by sending your congressperson a real physical letter here.
Here is the letter that I sent. I borrowed pieces from Tim’s. Feel free to customize to suit your purposes:
Dear
I oppose S.J.Res. 6 (“A joint resolution disapproving the rule submitted by the Federal Communications Commission with respect to”) because the net as we know it today has been one of the brightest spots in the US innovation economy for the past two decades.
I am a venture capitalist and have been funding startups for the better part of 10 years. The companies I’ve funded have created thousands of US jobs. Most of those jobs are threatened by this legislation.
Net neutrality is essential for the internet to continue to be an engine of value creation. If we had truly open competition at the access layer, net neutrality rules would be unnecessary, because competition would deliver increasing services to customers. But what we have instead is a network of local monopolies. Left to themselves, these monopolies will choke the life out of the internet as we know it.
The industries that are promoting this legislation are big companies; they have your ear and are doubtless helping fund your campaigns. But the companies that oppose this legislation are the future of technology in this country.
Sincerely,
Bryce Roberts
