I’m spending some time this week evaluating my goals for 2011 and thinking through the known options for what I want to bite off in 2012.

Earlier this year I read Derek Sivers excellent book, Anything You Want, and I keep hearing his words ringing in my ears. This short video clip is his summary of that specific chapter- ”Hell Yeah or No”.

So, I’m using that as my guide for the projects I want to bite off in 2012. If I’m not totally excited about something- an new investment, working with a new person, attending or speaking at an event or getting involved in a new project- I’m saying no.

Now, that doesn’t mean I’ll just be cherry picking the fun or easy things. Often times I’ll say Hell Yeah! to a project because it will be really difficult and make me stretch well beyond my comfort zone. Often times saying Hell Yeah! is quickly followed by “Oh No! What Have I Gotten Myself Into?!?”.

In years past I’ve made the mistake of saying half hearted yeses. This year my goal is to keep it simple: either Hell Yeah! or no.
