Defining company culture isn’t a luxury reserved for large organizations, its critical to the fabric of even the smallest start up. In a board meeting today I asked, “how would we do that OUR WAY”. Having taken only one seed round of funding and never having written a formal values statement, everyone knew exactly what OUR WAY meant. Carving them in stone or hiring an skywriters to scrawl them over company HQ will always fall short of actions and incentives that help employees internalize and value what OUR WAY really means.
