Thanks to the good folks at ohours.org, I held my first office hours yesterday. I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’d never met any of the people who signed up and didn’t know, in advance, what in the world they wanted to talk to me about. I was as prepared for someone to pull out a knife as I was for them to pull out a powerpoint.

Turns out, I haven’t met all of the awesome people in the world yet and I had a chance to meet 5 more of them over the course of an hour. I was genuinely impressed with everyone I met. Each had a different agenda for their time slot. Some wanted to test out their pitching style, others wanted to see if I could help them vet their idea and others wanted to know if their project was viable or if they should shelve it and move on.

Though brief, I hope they found the time to be worthwhile. I know I did. And I’ll plan to host office hours again soon.

PS- this really highlighted for me how many great people I have tuning in to the things I’m posting across the web. Y’all are a very interesting group. I hope someone has, or does, build a tool that would let me get a better view into who you all are, what you do and whether there are opportunities for us to work together. My first thought was to find an app that could would surface the Linkedin profiles for all the people who follow me on Twitter and Tumblr. If that’s not a thing it should be.
